VP of Communications
Meet Dawn Zerkel
LWML CID Vice President of Communication
I’m Dawn Zerkel, a lifelong Lutheran and member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg, Illinois. I serve as Vice President of Communication for the LWML Central Illinois District and work as the District President’s Administrative Assistant for the LCMS Central Illinois District.
My LWML journey has included serving as a Young Woman Representative in 2007, Christian Life Chairman, Vice President of Christian Life, and Technology Chairman, as well as a member of the national LWML Technology Committee. Each opportunity has helped me grow in faith and build friendships with women who share a desire to serve the Lord.
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League encourages women to grow in God’s Word, use their gifts in service, and support the sharing of Christ’s love through mission grants and outreach. In my current position, I help keep members connected to that work by sharing news, resources, and opportunities to participate.
My responsibilities
Based on the LWML CID bylaws and guidelines, my duties include:
- Chairing the Communication Committee and coordinating with the Technology Chairman, The Clarion Editor, and Public Relations Chairman.
- Helping keep district communications accurate, current, consistent with LWML branding, and faithful to LCMS doctrine.
- Supporting communication through The Clarion, the website, social media, and publicity for district activities.
- Assisting the Technology Chairman with district electronic meetings and voting procedures.
- Maintaining contact with the national LWML Department of Communication as needed.
- Serving on the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Structure Committee, and Convention Steering Committee.
- Providing reports to the Board of Directors when requested and a written report for the convention manual.
- Helping fulfill the President’s duties when needed, as provided in the bylaws.
In my day-to-day service, I also update website information, create banners and announcements, share event invitations and mite progress, and help with district email needs. I enjoy finding ways to make information easy to locate and useful to our members. Sharing ideas and stories from our zones and congregations helps us encourage one another as we “Serve the Lord with Gladness.”
